0:49 Although the day ain't over. Yet, this Rabel and Russini story just keeps on giving, possibly like they do to each other. In Sedona, Mike Rabel, head coach the New England Patriots, and Diana Russini sports journalist for was it the NFL Network? Tray, I believe she was with the Athletic, Yeah, thank you, that is correct. And Diana Rossini from the Athletic. Formerly of ESPN. And maybe even the NFL Network, but one of the top NFL reporters, very tied in.

1:33 Lots of sources, so many puns. Uh huh. Don't worry, We're gonna get some digs in on him too. Not just her, but these two found themselves tangled in each other and controversy when the New York Posts explosive Hage six story on Mike Rabel and Diana Russini. Blew up last week. Now there's new information saying, from ninety eight point five to Sports Hub in New England, it's not surprising that Vrabel and Patriots owner Robert Kraft reportedly spent time over the past two weeks doing damage control, and according to a new report Sunday night from In Touch, Patriots owner Bob Kraft tried to stop the page six report, containing photos of Rabel and Racini at a luxury adults only resort in Arizona. One source described a crisis management specialist stepping into due Craft bidding in a last minute attempt to stop the outlet from running the photos.

2:43 According to this. Robert Kraft intervened and had his haunchos pressure the Post before they published and tried to kill the story. The Post gave Rabel a longer time to respond than what is considered industry norms, and Craft took advantage of that extended time frame to put pressure on the reporter and the paper or a notorious crisis strategist made the call, but was unsuccessful in neutering the story. By the way, Rabel is not under investigation from the NFL or potential violations of the league's personal conduct policy. The same report from ESPN's Ben Strauss stated that Rabel had worked directly with ra Sini on how to respond to page six. Rabel's only official response to the story was, these photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggesting otherwise is laughable.

3:31 This doesn't deserve any further response. You know, and from him. I mean, I can't imagine even in their personal conduct policy that adultery is on the list, because if that was the case, I think there. Would be a. Large swath of NFL front office, coaches, players that have issues with that. But in what would be a heavy dose of irony, the NFL would swallow itself if that clause was in their conduct policy.

4:13 But yeah, I also I saw one story that the photos were actually taken by a PI hired by Russini's husband. Oh God damn. Now, whether that's true or not, I don't know, but it certainly. She certainly seems to have a history because of some interludes with coaches. Oh, she has a tight. So there's one story that she and I think the girl's name is Britt McHenry, who was also a sports reporter, once got into a fistfight because they were both sleeping with Sean McVay. Oh, and there seem to have been rumors about Racini and I just I can't fathom. And I guess the athletic because she said that she took the same line that Rabel did of these pictures are out of contact, taken out of context. Everything else. I was on a trip with friends, and I think the Athletic went, can you give us some proof that you were there with other people?

5:31 Oh so Ruscini. So Rabel and Raussini were, hey, let me get this right. So in their public statements, Rabel and Rassini were trying to say, we just happened to bump into each other. That's what I took. Yes, that this was just an innocent exchange. We were there with other people, We were not there with each other. Happenstance. Yeah. So Rabel's official response, these photos show a completely innocent interaction, and then you suggest in otherwise is laughable. This doesn't deserve any further response, do you think he said the same words to his wife, or like Diana Ruscini, do you think she said that to her husband, like I was just there with friends, to which his response would have been, which ones?

6:17 I know all of your friends? Yeah, that's a that's a real Did one of them you know have? Was one of them smart enough to actually have someone going with them that they at least could provide some semblance of an alibi. Yeah, if you're gonna have an if you're going to have an affair and you are a public person and the person you're having an affair with is also a public person, then you both need to bring throwdown friends so you can say we were just at this place with friends. We weren't there to interdude or to hook up. Or don't go to a to a resort.

6:57 Go someplace where you just rent an airbnb and you're completely secluded and you're not in public at all. That would actually, that would actually make a hell of a lot more sense. Better to rent an airbnb with four walls in a roof to use as your palace all weekend instead of going to an open air resort where telephoto lenses are easy and you're not. You're both. Very high profile in the world's most popular sport. There are a lot of people who might not know who the current pop stars are, but they know who Rabel and Rassini are because they follow football, I mean, fantasy football, everything else that so many people are addicted to. So why would you think that you could do anything like that in public and get away with it? I mean, Rabel, I understand why now, and is this a double standard?

7:54 Absolutely? But as an NFL coach, I mean especially when your owner got busted for getting a handy, which I'm sure Kraft is like, couldn't you just go get a massage? Dude? Seriously? Yeah, I got a whole slew of places you could go. They make these things called escorts. But Recini, you know, as a female reporter, obviously the scrutiny is going to be higher and there's a double standard. But yeah, you knew that. Yeah. So the athletics response was to fire Diana Rossini. I think she. I think she resigned technically.

8:35 Okay, whether it was her, whether it was of her own choosing, or the athletic said we think it's best you resign. Either way, she is no longer employed at her job because of this story. Because of this situation, head coach of the Patriots, Mike Vrabel still got his job, and there's no question about whether or not he will keep his job. He went to the Super Bowl, No, oh, yeah, he operates in an area that Yeah, Robert Craft is not gonna And if if Robert Kraft did fire him, there would be five other teams hiring him the next day.

9:16 Yeah. And therein does lie a massive double standard, not just based on the occupation, but because of the sex is involved. Right, So this is where I would love to know an of an. Example where a male reporter was busted hooking up with a coach male or female. I don't care. I would just like, you know, for the gender thing to happen. Maybe it's happened and it just hasn't gone public. I don't know, and or it has gone public and my brain just can't recall it at the time. But I've not heard of a situation from the opposite where a male reporter has been You know, there's been plenty of male reporters busted doing things they shouldn't have. Now this is different where you know, the sex is involved allegedly but it really is an awful double standard where the NFL head coach there's no question about him keeping his job the female reporter, but on the street, I mean, now it does. It does from a journalistic side. Take the gender out of it. Let's just look, it's an individual who is a reporter. There is a an ethical responsibility to the job, right and if you're busted hooking up with one of the coaches that you cover on the league that you cover, that's kind of a conflict of interest.

10:43 You should be gone. And it is going to forever. If that got out and they and she did not part ways with the athletic or whatever I think it did, becomes a bigger problem because everyone is going to question her quote unquote sources. It's like, oh, well, yeah, you're you're banging Rabel, so you're getting inside information, right. Vrabel, on the other hand. Who has always been considered a very good coach, You are one of a very select few people that are deemed good enough to be a head coach of an NFL team, So you you do have a level of job security very.

11:24 Few people have. Yeah. Now, I will say this on one hand, this is just kind of depending on your own personal ethics. This damages his credibility with at least some people in the NFL, because at some point Mike Vrabel, as a head coach in the NFL, has told and will tell again in the future, a bunch of young men that he employs to be good, to be decent, to follow the straight and narrow, don't do things that gets you into precarious situations. And there he is in a five star adults only resort in the desert of Arizona, hooking up with someone that covers the NFL. So it's going to be real difficult for him as a head coach to dole out any punishment for poor judgment on the part of a player.

12:20 On the other hand, some players are going to be like, yeah, get a coach. But if he actually has to drop the hammer and say, hey, you're suspended for doing A B and C, then that's when they may look at and go like, who are you to tell me what to do. In this day and age. I don't know that any coaches, you know, finger wagging at players talking about the morality of you know, relationships, I I if you know he's getting on him about something similar there and some of that is there's a certain aspect of do as I say, not as I do I. But yeah, because as a coach, he could get up there in front of a team and say, I'm not telling you not to cheat on your wives. I'm just telling you don't do anything that could get you in trouble in general and bring a negative light on the team and be a distraction for the team and for the teammates, which is exactly what he's done. But then he could absolutely easily say he's like, look, you're the players, I'm the coach. I've been where you are. I can now get away with this nonsense.

13:24 You can't. Yeah, or if you want those big endorsement deals and everything else, be more careful. These could be a problem in the future if you don't start looking at them really quickly, or we say, hey, this is something that we started noticing. Let's look at it next year. Because when they call us out annually, we can you know, continue to watch that home as it ages and as as as it changes. And they all do.

And did we ever find out on that show who the Boss truly was? Was it Tony Dancer or was it Judith Lyt. Or was it Katherine Hellman? I don't know. I think it was Katherine Hellman, the Old Redhead. Uh, it was not a Lisamano, Yeah, I know, Joey was it?

That was one of the great eighties shows. And it's one of the questions of a TV show we never got the answer to. We don't know exactly what the ending was in the Sopranos because it faded to black at the last second, and we don't know who the actual boss was on Who's the Boss? Tony Danz or Judith Lame? No? And really, what's miraculous is Tony Danza basically had two hit sitcoms late seventies in the eighties where he played the same character.

I don't know, dumb guy from Bronx wherever, and then it's kind of the same same character. More power to him. I mean, God knows he banked, Yes, he did, and it worked out for just about everybody on that Well, no, I know, Judith liked did some other stuff. Alyssa Milana went on to do a number of other things. Danny Pintaro, I don't think as much. I think he kind of struggled. And then was it Catherine Hellman, Yeah, who played Yeah she died, Yeah she gets a pass.

19:36 Look, it's hard. It's hard to get a show on Hollywood period, let alone more than one. So I think it's interesting how some people will judge, you know, actors, kind of like how the what's his name the guy that was an actor on The Cosby Show who was the husband of the oldest daughter who wasn't even on the show every single episode, and then people made a big deal like it because he was working at a Trader Joe's. And it's like, that's actually the reality for most actors. It's very rare that actors get on a successful show, then on top of that, make enough money to where they can live off that success, and then on top of that get judged on whether or not they get another one, which I mean if you were good on the first one or had a prominent role in the first one, odds are your career has a better chance of staying consistent.

20:30 But I love it's hard man. Hollywood's a bitch. Well, and you didn't get I mean, what made you know TV stars a lot of money in the late starting in the late eighties was syndication rights, and you're getting paid off that because that's where you know, the TV stars in sixties and seventies especially, they got. Dick on a good day. Yeah, if they got if they got dick on a if they got dick on a Tuesday, that was a good day. Because you're right, back then, it was all the producers in the studios that had all the royalties on that stuff. Famously, because you know our old radio show, we talked to just about every living cast member at the time from Gilligan's Island.

21:15 They got nothing. Nothing. There's a reason why they were also happy to do those reunion shows. There's a reason why they were always at the autograph conventions because they needed the cash. Well, I mean, it was Adam West after the success of Batman. Yeah, he said, two years later he's getting fired out of a cannon at a county fair. Yeah, not even a state fair. Uh, county That tells you something. It's Hollywood's been tough, and now it's happening again to where once they got the royalties figured out for TV syndication money for the stars, then the streaming rights have kicked in. And that was one of the reasons why we had the writers strike from a few years ago during the pendemic, was because the streamers and the producers of these shows were trying to hold out money on the royalties for streaming rights for these for these performers, like they're doing it again, these greedy a holes, And that's why they had to strike, and they got at least a fair enough deal to where now they actually get a taste of these streaming deals. But it's still kind of a problem when it comes to the movies because they may make a movie and their contract has stipulated all these things as far as compensations. Let's say it's an actor like Brad Pitt, right, Actually, let's use Brad Pitt and George Clooney. That movie they did recently.

22:36 I think it's called Wolves. I don't know for sure, but I think this movie is an example of this. They shot the movie everything in it. It was supposed to be released in theaters and their compensation was based on box office stuff. Well, then the show ended up getting sold to streaming instead of getting a box office release, it got mainly released on streaming, and so they took a massive pay hit because they didn't have streaming stuff built into the contract. I may have that specific story wrong as far as the actors and the film, but I know that that has been a point of contention in Hollywood, where they were supposed to get paid for box office stuff, and then the distributor or producers whatever sold it out from underneath them to a streamer instead, and the performers got.

23:24 Dined, which even if if it goes to movies. I remember I took a class at college about I think it was called the Politics of Hollywood, but one of the subjects was the incredibly screwed up accounting that studios used for to calculate whether a movie was profitable or not. And it is. The devil is in the details, because it basically, you know, like, you could take the biggest hit ever like The Titanic, and they could figure out a way to make it where it technically took a. Loss just through fuzzy math, and someone gets paid a lot of money to do that fuzzy math.

24:10 Yeah, well, I just imagine it being just an insane number dump to where the person on the receiving end is like, okay, whatever, I just I just want to go home now. I don't want to hear any more numbers throwing at me. Fine, take all my money, just just go away. Well, it was Hollywood's way of. Some of the stars started getting wise to things and started getting pieces of the of the movie on the back end, and then it became oh, well, we can screw with those numbers, until finally agents and everyone was like, no, no, no, no, no, We're here's how we're gonna outline specifically how we're going to calculate if this makes a profit or not. And and that's also part of the reason why you see so many big, big stars now go into starting their own production companies as soon as they can, so then that way they can start their own company, finance their own projects, control every aspect of it, especially the money, and then they just pay themselves as the performers. So you have each of these actors, if they get big enough, can become their own little mini studio because that's what they do they create their own and then you work with the bigger ones. That's how So that's what's happened.

25:21 It backfired on Hollywood. They screwed over the performers so much. The performers said, okay, fine, we're just going to become you. And that's why you have where it used to have, Like in a front of a movie, you had one production company and you'll see the little like Imagine Entertainment. Now you see six of them. Yeah, those little vignettes of different production companies. And why now where you used to have one. Maybe two executive producers, now you have ten. It's like a small army. Fewer people rated that Iranian ship in the Straight of Horror Moves the other day, then will be on the credits for producers out at a regular Hollywood film, And you're right, Like I was rewatching the end of The Last Dragon the other day, and I wanted to watch the beginning of it because it's TriStar and it's the Pegasus coming through. It was just Trystar, just try Star.

26:12 Now it's Trystar isn't even around anymore. But now it's gonna be like MGM, Amazon Prime, Bad Robot, And that's just two that's three right there. That's the director in the studio and a distributor, and then you get all the other smaller ones like in with Icon and Valhalla and all these other You're right, it's like a litany. It's like a LinkedIn profile of someone's resume of production companies saying, oh, this film produced by It's like, how can this many people produce one movie? Did you ever see the movie State in Maine? No? You should. It is a great glimpse into Hollywood. I think it's twenty five years old. And the cast is unreal.

27:00 William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin from Sex and the City, Sarah, Jessica Park Parker, Yeah, Julius Stiles, the guy that plays Agent Colson in the Marvel movies. The movie is stacked with performers, and it's all about this Hollywood production taking over this small town and it's a behind the scenes film production and it is hysterical. But they start handing out associate producer credits to all the people in the town just to get things from them. So every time in a movie I see associate producer, that's all I think of.

But she is one of those actresses very polarizing because so many people just absolutely hate her. I never knew that. What did Andy McDowell do to have people hate her? Was it just being in Hudson Hawk.

Oh, I don't know, but she kind of has a kind of a weird Southern accent, and people absolutely hated her in that movie. I think I've only seen that movie once, and it was back when it came out or either either in the theater or very soon after it was out on video. It's one of the great I love that movie. It is quintessential British comedy. Hugh Grant had a run where, I mean he just made great movies, and it's because even nodding Hill also great movie, but Hugh Grant's rom coms were absolutely top notch for a good ten years.

I am completely secure enough in my maskul larity to say I too, am a fan of Notting Hill, Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts, and more importantly that that was the US introduction to rhese Iphens. Grant's roommate, the guy oh yeah, yeah, who was also the kicker in The Replacements yep, smoking a cigarette, using the smoke to get the idea of where he needs to kick the ball. Through the uprights. I love that dude. That dude is such a good actor. Oh yeah, I never, I never really knew the hatred for Andy McDowell. It's a thing. That dude is one of my favorite actors going right now. If you've never seen Split, so good. Yes that that movie. The actually what was Split was the.

31:38 And that part of the Unbroken Like that was the Uh was that the third one? The second or third? But yeah, that was part of the m Night Shyamalan trilogy. Yeah, the final one is where it all kind of comes together. Split is the one where his character is introduced as like split personality, part man, part beast, and a few other personalities and also Coast an Anya Taylor, Joey it's a phenomenal movie. No, it's it's a great because what's funny about that that trilogy is I didn't really like the first one, but the uh I think it was Unbroken or Unbreakable. Unbreakable with Bruce Willis and then you got Glass with Samuel L. Jackson and then Split with James McAvoy.

32:18 Yeah, but I think McAvoy's in both of those, isn't he? And both the last two. I forget how it all worked out, but yeah, but. The first one out of context because there was also a good ten years from the first to the second one. I think, uh, first one I was not that big of a fan of because it didn't make a lot of sense. Then then you go back after in a trilogy than it, Actually it makes a lot of sense, and Samuel L. Jackson's character makes even more sense. Uh Yeah, solid, solid movies. And as Dallas Cowboys, our very own Tony Romo, he is forty six today.

33:06 Perpetually underrated in my. Book, Yeah, the the. He was he was one of those guys that was so so good, but there were just times when you wanted to tell him it's like, dude, stop it. Just just take it down. One little notch and be a little more conservative on occasion. But and that's we have this conversation every time we talk about a Cowboys quarterback. Quarterbacks get too much credit and too much blame when a team does. Well, and I think. That's especially the case with Romo. Look, if you stick Tony Romo with the Cowboys team of the nineties, would he be as good as Troy Aikman.

33:57 Maybe not, but I feel like we would. I feel like he still would have won a couple of Super Bowls, And I like, if you I do wonder if you stick Troy Aikman into Romo's teams. I would love to see that play out. We can't, but I wish I could. I would have loved to have seen Romo the year he got hurt. M which I think it was like this, huh, when Dak took over, or one of the other years he got hurt. When Dak took over, that team was the best team he would have played with, And I would have loved to have seen what happened. Had he stayed healthy. I think they should have brought him back.

The because I think about that one game in Seattle, after Romo was healthy and they had already made the decision they were going to roll with with Dak a quarterback. They pulled Dak and Romo comes in and drives straight down the field, throws a touch down, walks off. There you go, h to me, that was proof right there. It's like that you should have been back in. And I also feel like Dak sealed his fate with that tweet when Romo's a quarterback and he had a bad game and throw a game ending interception and Dak throws out the tweet. I can't defend this guy anymore. Brother, we know the feeling, we sure do.

Her husband, Brian, and their twenty three month old son, Henry, were supposed to stay home and meet up with them later. Waving goodbye.
