When you go out to dinner with a big group, are you obligated to split the bill evenly—or should you only pay for what you actually ordered? And at what point does refusing to split the check make you look cheap?
That’s the debate kicking off this episode of The Treehouse Show.
Trey recently went to a birthday dinner with a large group and asked the server to put him on a separate tab. Why? The rest of the table was ordering bottles of wine, cocktails, and beer, while Trey wasn’t drinking. He still contributed toward the birthday person’s dinner and drinks, paid for everything he ordered himself, and tipped his server 40%.
Seems fair, right? Apparently not to everyone at the table.
So where’s the line? If one person orders a $20 meal while everyone else is ordering expensive drinks, appetizers, and entrées, should the entire bill still be divided evenly? Is asking for a separate check perfectly reasonable—or does it make you the cheap friend?
After settling absolutely nothing in that debate, we move on to Celebrity Birthdays, which somehow leads to a conversation about rehab, reports about Brad Pitt drinking again, and whether some TV shows noticeably changed their writing and messaging after COVID.
